Organising and financing youth exchanges

A central concern of the African-German Youth Initiative is to provide information about the various opportunities and offers in the field of youth exchange and voluntary services and to provide targeted advice to interested parties. The initial telephone consultation is carried out via the Engagement Global hands-on centre. The AGYI organises regular information events to provide detailed advice. The dates can be viewed here in the AGYI calendar of events.

ENSA

The Development Policy School Exchange Programme provides financial support for school partnerships by subsidising flight and subsistence costs for exchanges and preparatory trips between schools in Germany and African, Asian, Latin American and South Eastern European countries. In addition, ENSA's pedagogical expertise assists schools in the preparation and follow-up of exchanges and supports networking.

weltwärts exchange projects in the context of Agenda 2030

The funding line Extracurricular exchange projects in the context of Agenda 2030 (weltwärts exchange projects) is a programme for extracurricular youth group exchanges in development policy. Groups from Germany and African countries are supported in jointly carrying out a project on one of the 17 sustainable development goals (SDG) of the United Nations. Applications may be submitted by German organisations which, together with a partner organisation from an African country or a country on the DAC list, submit the application in a so-called application partnership.

weltwärts - development volunteers service

The weltwärts development volunteers service was founded in 2008 by the Bundesministerium für wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung (BMZ - Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development. weltwärts sees itself as a learning and voluntary service and enables young people between the ages of 18 and 28 to spend six to 24 months in Germany or in a country of the Global South. Interested organisations must undergo an assessment by the coordination office weltwärts at Engagement Global.

ASA

The ASA programme is aimed at young students, university graduates and working people and sees itself as a workshop for global learning. ASA supports international learning communities of young people who want to explore their scope for action in our networked world and who want to support sustainable development. The focus is also on considering one's own position within global contexts and power structures. The ASA programme awards approximately 280 scholarships annually to young people between the ages of 21 and 35.

CHAT between the WORLDS

The CHAT between the WORLDS combines global learning with digital media. Students in Germany interact with students in African, Asian and Latin American countries through online communication. School classes of all school types from the 5th grade onwards can participate. They are supported by qualified CHAT between the WORLDS advisors. Using new media, CHAT between the WORLDS overcomes the geographical distance between people from different countries and thus offers a good addition to the opportunities for personal encounters.

Bread for the World

Church partnership groups can apply to Bread for the World for funding for partnership projects and exchange trips.

IJAB

The International Youth Service of the Federal Republic of Germany (IJAB) provides information on public funding from the Child and Youth Plan of the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth and on municipal and private funding opportunities for international youth exchanges.

Stiftung Nord-Süd-Brücken

The Stiftung Nord-Süd-Brücken supports domestic development work projects in Germany, e.g. encounters and exchange programmes between people from North and South. Associations from the new federal states and Berlin can submit applications.

Support for exchanges between young people from Rhineland-Palatinate and Rwanda

School exchange trips, youth group trips and exchanges in partnership initiatives are subsidised within the framework of the state partnership between the federal state of Rhineland-Palatinate and the African state of Rwanda. Associations from Rhineland-Palatinate can contact the responsible department at the Ministry of the Interior and Sport.

Youth and skilled labour exchange with transition countries

The Federal Foreign Office provides funding for youth and skilled labour exchanges with transition countries (Egypt, Tunisia, Morocco and Jordan). German and North African experts in youth work meet to establish partner structures, to get to know relevant institutions and structures of youth work in the respective partner country or to meet for a joint exchange of experience and knowledge or for training purposes in the field of intercultural youth exchange.
