The international conference "Countdown 2030, 2063 and beyond: Our common future" took place in Cologne (Germany) from 2nd to 6th December and gave young people from all over the world the opportunity to exchange experiences and ideas on UN Agenda 2030 (especially the Sustainable Development Goals) and Agenda 2063 of the African Union. At the end of the conference, resolutions were made for the implementation of both agendas in the participants’ respective countries of origin.
In order to share and pass on the experience gained in Cologne and the recommendations of the conference, a group of young Beninese people who had also been involved in the planning of the conference itself, organized a virtual workshop for alumni of various programs from Benin on April 9th 2020. They were assisted by the AGYI Network Benin and the Alumni Network Benin (RAVIES).
The 25 participants had a lively exchange on how young people can get involved in the implementation of Agendas 2030 and 2063. In group work, they defined priority actions to be carried out in Benin and recorded them in a roadmap.
Following the restitution workshop, a call for action was issued to the participants to make one or more commitments for the implementation of the roadmap activities. Commitments were made to translate the 2030 and 2063 agendas into different Beninese languages to make them accessible to the local population, to advocate for the integration of the 2030 and 2063 agendas into academic curricula and to communicate massively on youth activities related to the recommendations of the Countdown 2030 and beyond conference.
