The online platform aims to create a central contact point for volunteer work in Africa. It will facilitate information-sharing and networking at different levels (continental, regional and national) among the different actors such as AU member states, civil society organisations, the private sector, institutions of international cooperation work, as well as volunteers and alumni of youth exchange and volunteer programmes.
The platform includes the following features:
- A joint African volunteerism policy that will ensure a common understanding and the establishment of minimum standards to define [Youth] voluntary work, a volunteer and volunteer programs and organizations in the African context. These minimum standards will serve as a guideline for the AU member states and the various volunteer programmes.
- Volunteerism mapping and knowledge resources that provide information on the contribution of volunteerism to the empowerment of young people and thus helping to promote voluntary work and to recognize its importance.
- Technical assistance aimed at strengthening and developing national volunteer policies, programmes or initiatives at all levels of implementation. They all can benefit from the provided pool of tools on volunteerism, including good practices and knowledge products, as well as volunteer management software, administrative and process tools and peer support.
