Between January and August, the Tanzanian Youth Coalition (TYC) successfully implemented some activities despite the Corona pandemic.
TYC held a consultation meeting on the topic of inclusion with various stakeholders in the Mwanza region on 5-6 June 2020. Participants included government officials and some organisations working with and/or representing people with disabilities. The background to the meeting was the development of a training manual on inclusion. The meeting enabled an exchange of experience and expertise, and ensured that all important thematic and practical aspects were considered and coordinated in the manual.
Additionally, TYC successfully ran the first workshop for trainers based on the inclusion manual in the Morogoro region from 5 to 11 July. The event was attended by 30 staff from schools and organisations involved in youth exchange programmes and voluntary services in Tanzania. At the end of the workshop, the participants were given the manual for further use in their organisations.
Furthermore, TYC succeeded in organising the 3rd Pan-African Youth Camp in Weruweru Kilimanjaro from 2 to 8 August 2020. The event was attended by over 50 participants from Tanzania. Due to the COVID-19 situation, it was not possible for participants from other countries to attend.
During the camp, young people were able to exchange experiences and learn from and with each other, with a focus on entrepreneurship, innovation and agriculture. Experts from various fields such as information and communication technology, agriculture, innovation and finance shared their knowledge with the young people, also with the aim of reminding the development actors involved to strengthen and invest in youth.
