Since 2016, the German-African Youth Initiative (AGYI) has been supporting and promoting the partnership-based and long-term exchange between Germany and African countries. During the study tour in Berlin and Bonn, from November 12 to November 24, 2017, the participants were able to exchange ideas and build new networks.
The guests included representatives of the three AGYI partner organizations, the Tanzania Youth Coalition (TYC, Tanzania), the Young Beninese Leaders Association (YBLA, Benin), WESSA (South Africa) and the German Association for International Cooperation (GIZ). The African Union Commission and the governments of Benin, South Africa and Tanzania were also represented.
The aim of the two-week study tour was to give the participating organizations an insight into the work of Engagement Global and to present the youth exchange programmes in Germany, as well as the contents and methods of the Education for Sustainable Development programme. German stakeholders were offered another opportunity to integrate the southern perspective into their pedagogical work and to network more closely with African partners.
The government representative from the office of the Tanzanian Prime Minister, Oswald Karadisi, emphasized his government's support for TYC and the AGYI as an overall initiative. The cooperation with strategic partners from the fields of sports and culture, the Federal Association for Cultural Education for Children and Youth (Bundesvereinigung Kultur Kindern- und Jugendbildung e.V.) and the German Sports Youth (Deutsche Sportjugend), was strengthened during the study tour.
