Approximately 60 weltwärts organisations from Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda and Germany formed the weltwärts partner conference between 20 and 23 April 2017. All participants combined their commitment to the weltwärts programme and the desire to establish and strengthen international partnerships. This is entirely in line with the 17th Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) which focuses on partnerships for global sustainability goals.
The extraordinary willingness was particularly evident on the last day of the conference when the participants – outside of the agenda – started the conference programme early in the morning to establish an East Africa weltwärts partner network. The declared goals of the new association are, on the one hand, the exchange of experience at regional levels and, on the other hand, speaking with a single voice in communication with the worldwide programme management committee in Germany.
The partner organisations from Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda and Rwanda showed specific interest in bilateral exchange opportunities. Information about the upcoming programme of the weltwärts voluntary service in Germany as well as about the new extracurricular group exchange project by the African-German Youth Initiative (AGYI) was highly requested.
