The new „weltwärts – extracurricular exchange projects“ funding line aims to promote mutual understanding and a joint commitment to future issues by bringing people together. However, it is not only the participants themselves who are to benefit from the formative experiences of exchange projects that alter their perceptions of others. The idea is also to create new partnerships and networks between the civic organisations involved. For example, a sports club in Germany could get the opportunity for an exchange project with a club in Benin, while exchanges will become easier overall, including for organisations in twinned towns and cities in Tanzania and Germany or between youth associations. The key element is that the exchange is organised in a spirit of partnership and consists of an outgoing and a return visit.
This means that applications are submitted by „application partnerships between a German project partner and one or more project partners from the Global South. The Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) is funding up to 75 per cent of the overall expenditure.
