Autumn School 2019

Participants had been selected out of a total of 460 applications that had been registered via Engagement Global's online application platform. A committee comprised of representatives from Impact Hub Accra, Ghana Philanthropy Forum, Engagement Global, researchers and Autumn School alumni were called upon to choose from among the very promising and innovative projects those that proved to be better oriented towards sustainable and directly achievable solutions.

12 coaches had been recruited and trained to support the 25 candidates during a three-month coaching phase. The first of a series of four virtual meetings had begun on 12th August 2019.

During these meetings, the 12 coaches shared their experience and provided guidance to the 25 Autumn School participants on how to create and manage a sustainable company.

The Autumn School 2019 was implemented in collaboration with Impact Hub Accra.

Accra has become known for one of the world’s largest e-waste dumps called Agbogbloshie. As the informal recycling activities at Agbogbloshie entailed severe environmental, health and social issues, the city has become a place where researchers, advocates and project managers come together in a joint effort to better understand and further develop the waste sector. But not only problems have surfaced. Also almost forgotten skills have received renewed attention, such as the ability to repair electronic devices.

Autumn School participants benefitted from the financing of travel and accommodation expenses covered by Engagement Global. Participants will also be assisted with the organization of their travel and accommodation and with their visa application.

It is important to note that project funding is not provided for within this Engagement Global program.

However, participants will be able to meet with strategic partners at public events during the last two days of the program and will benefit from fundraising training.
